Biopolymer-based sustainable geotechnical engineering

With increase of concerns about CO2 emission and climate change, we investigate sustainable materials and environmentally-friendly treatment method for geotechnical engineering practices. Through Bio-soil research from micro to macro scale, we aim to challenge sustainable ground improvement, soil preservation (e.g. anti-desertification), and geohazard mitigation.

Micro

-Soil particle-biopolymer hydrogel interaction and bonding behaviors
-Pore fluid and clay mineral effect on clay-water-biopolymer-ion interaction in aqueous phase

Meso

-Laboratory tests to evaluate geotechnical properties of biopolymer-soils including sedimentation, (Wave-based) consolidation, soil-water-characteristic (SWC), Strengthening behavior, hydraulic conductivity, durability, aseismic response, erosion resistance etc.

Macro

-Development of site implementation method (e.g. spraying, injection, deep mixing)
